protoCAD provides vacuum cast urethane parts created from RTV silicone rubber molds. Vacuum cast urethane parts are cast in silicone rubber molds and provide an economical and fast way to simulate injection molded plastic parts without the cost or time delay of hard tooling. Parts are typically used for marketing, functional testing, short run production, and pre-production parts. Choose from a wide selection of castable urethanes to match your production material. Vacuum cast urethane parts can be delivered in just a few days.
The process begins with a pattern. Typically the pattern is a StereoLithography Rapid Prototype but can also be any physical part. The master is staged and encapsulated in a RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanization) Silicone rubber. After the rubber cures, the master is removed and you are left with a RTV mold. The mold is placed under vacuum and is filled with a two-part urethane. Once the urethane casting has hardened, it is removed and the mold can be used to cast additional parts.
